Henbane and Mandrake are members of the deadly nightshade family that contain the highly poisonous compound solanine. The folklore surrounding toxic plants is fascinating! These roots and flowers would never be amiss from a witches potion kit. Henbane is sometimes referred to as black nightshade or devils eye. It is said that henbane can be used to communicate with the dead and a concoction of Mandrake root and Henbane is essential in a witches flying ointment.
